After just three seasons with Arsenal, it looks like Aaron Ramsdale might be on the move this summer to secure more regular football. But will the English goalkeeper be moving to a fellow Premier League club or abroad?

Since the arrival of David Raya at Arsenal, it has been a difficult spell for Aaron Ramsdale. The 26-year-old featured in just six Premier League games all season, and two of them he had to simply because Raya couldn't face his parent club Brentford while only on loan.

Unfortunately, unless the Spaniard is to get a long term injury or have a significant downturn in form, it looks like Arteta's mind is made up on who his number 1 is for this season and the future.

So the decision is left with Ramsdale on whether he is happy playing second fiddle to Raya and featuring only when he's injured and in the domestic cup competitions, or if he would prefer to move elsewhere and be the number 1 once again.

Ramsdale Next Club Odds

There's one club that looks most interested in either buying permanently or loaning Ramsdale this summer, and that's Wolves. The Wanderers approached Arsenal about a loan with an option to buy just yesterday according to David Ornstein (see below), but Arsenal prefer a permanent transfer or at least an obligation to buy.

Seeing as Ramsdale only signed a new deal just a year ago when his wages were increased, it's understandably a bit of a stumbling block for teams with less financial power than the top six in the Premier League.

Ajax were another club interested in loaning Ramsdale, but have seemingly dropped out of the race with Arsenal unwilling to do a deal just on loan this summer.

Aaron Ramsdale Arsenal

Just a year ago and shortly before Arsenal purchased David Raya, many would have expected Ramsdale to play an integral role in any title push for the Gunners, and potentially be a pivotal reason in them winning any trophies in the future.

When Ramsdale first joined Arsenal it looked to be the perfect fit for the young side that Arteta was building, and it was an extremely successful transfer initially. After replacing Bernd Leno in 2021 in similar fashion to how he has been replaced by Raya in the past year, he never looked back and was one of Arsenal's most consistent players throughout the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.

But there were some mistakes in there too, which Arteta seemingly could not look past as he decided to pursue Raya and replace the Englishman last summer, ruthlessly trying to turn his team into Premier League winners for the 2023/24 season. They came up short, but the Arsenal boss was vindicated in his decision to replace Ramsdale as Raya even won over the majority of the Arsenal fans as the season progressed.

Now, unless Ramsdale is satisfied sitting on the bench for the majority of the season, it is time for the 26-year-old to make his move and progress his career elsewhere, in what has been an unfortunate turn of events in his Arsenal career.

As we mentioned, it took some time for Raya to win over Arsenal fans with many believing that Ramsdale should have kept his spot as number 1. However, the stats back up Arteta's decision, as well as the calmness the Spaniard gives off to his back four and his undoubtedly greater ability than Ramsdale at claiming crosses.

Aaron Ramsdale Contract

Ramsdale, as we already touched on, signed a new contract before the beginning of last season. The deal was under improved terms and it meant he was tied down to Arsenal until the summer of 2026, with an option for Arsenal to extend for another year on top of that.

At that point, it looked certain Ramsdale would see out that term of his contract and probably sign another new deal in the future as Arsenal's undisputed number 1. But since he has dropped to the bench, Ramsdale will be keen to get a move as soon as possible rather than see out the rest of his contract with the Gunners.
